Definition
Measure of the deviation of income distribution from a perfectly equal distribution. A Gini of 0 represents perfect equality, while 100 implies perfect inequality.
Plain English
The Gini index measures income inequality on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 means everyone earns exactly the same and 100 means one person earns everything. Most countries fall between 25 and 60.
